Hi all! This is Durham Devon and I live in the USA. Awake spinal fusion is a minimally invasive surgical technique that allows patients to remain awake and alert during a spinal fusion procedure. Unlike traditional surgeries that require general anesthesia, awake spinal fusion utilizes local anesthesia and sedation, enabling the patient to maintain consciousness while receiving critical feedback throughout the operation. The primary goal of spinal fusion surgery is to join two or more vertebrae to eliminate movement between them, alleviating pain, and providing stability. It is commonly indicated for conditions such as degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, and spinal stenosis.
